Syrian National Army (SNA) Takes Control of Syrian Air Force Base

The Syrian National Army (SNA) officially took over the air force base in northern Syria, which was part of the "Dawn of Freedom" operation. This operation was launched to prevent the PKK-YPG's plans to establish a terrorist corridor connecting Tel Rifat and the north-east of Syria.

This important air base is located 13 kilometers from the Turkish border and has been under the control of the PKK-YPG since 2016. During their presence, Russian and Iranian forces regularly used the base to provide military logistical support to the PKK-YPG. The opposition forces managed to regain control of it through an operation targeting key terrorist locations.

In 2016, the PKK-YPG captured Tel Rifat with Russian air support, resulting in the displacement of approximately 250,000 civilians. Many of the displaced people have sought refuge in areas near the Turkish border. Since then, Tel Rifat has become a staging ground for attacks against Turkish strongholds and opposition forces stationed there.

The SNA forces are currently conducting large-scale operations to disrupt the PKK-YPG's plans for strategic corridors connecting Raqqa and Aleppo. These operations are also said to have affected the power of groups allied with the Syrian regime such as Iran, Russia, and Hezbollah, which are now seen as weaker than before.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said the developments in Syria highlight the strategic weakness of the Bashar al-Assad regime and its allies. He also pointed out that US forces in Syria are not directly at risk from these conflicts, as they are in a different location from where these conflicts are taking place.

It appears that the new operations in northern Syria have weakened the power of the PKK-YPG and their supporters, while the SNA is intensifying its efforts to defend the security of the region.
